How to use the checklist
At the start of each month, write down every bill you expect: its name, the day it is due and the usual amount. Put them in due-date order so the next bill is always at the top. When you pay one, tick the box and write a note if the amount was different, for example a higher electric bill.
Look at the page once a week. The U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau suggests the same habit: list each bill with its amount and due date, and check it every week, so the timing of your paychecks and your bills never catches you out.
When paper is not enough
If you have bills that come every few months, or you want the totals added up for you, the Bill Tracker Spreadsheet does it in Excel or Google Sheets. You type each bill once, it fills all 12 months, marks bills as overdue or due soon on its own and shows everything on a dashboard and a bill calendar.
